Information, Education and Training

Information and education play an important role in the surveillance and analysis of epidemiological situations and improvements in disease control and prevention.

www.smittskyddsinstitutet.se is the web domain of SMI. It contains information regarding current outbreaks, statistics on the number of notified cases of all the diseases under the communicable disease act, information on child vaccinations, and much more.

Publications

Smittskydd: “Smittskydd” is a magazine published 6 times per year. Experts at SMI provide facts in an easily accessible way. Articles cover disease control in practice from all over Sweden as well as reports on current research in Sweden and abroad.

EPI-aktuellt: EPI-aktuellt is a weekly electronic newsletter published by SMI. It covers epidemiological surveillance, outbreaks and other items of interest in the fields of infection epidemiology and disease control and prevention.

Courses

Each year around 8-10 one-day courses (“SMI days”) covering current issues are arranged by SMI.

A complete Master’s Programme in Communicable Disease Control and Hygiene is arranged in collaboration with the Karolinska Institute.

A national “STRAMA day” addresses the problems concerning antibiotic resistance.
